Wow. What a great time. God is so good! 23 years, at least, and we were able to visit like we had never lost touch! Isn't amazing how God knits the hearts and spirits of His children together??

I haven't made my solo trip to CA in five years, and now I am dragging my "perfect" children with me. They did great eight hours total (6 1/2 driving), and very little whining or bickering. And GOOD attitudes once we arrived at our destination... Even though mom was distracted catching up with friends after 23 years, they still obeyed and did as they knew they were supposed to (can you tell? I am SO proud of them!)

Good friends & good fellowship, bringing praise and glory to God! What is better??

I saw this about a week before I had the opportunity to live it again.  We are blessed. I have lived the truth of Psalm 68:6, more than once. It says "God setteth the solitary in families". And for me, He has. He has set me in multiple families!  I do not take that for granted!  I have had to make hard choices to step away from biological family that is/was not healthy or a people who looked out for my safety and well-being.  I am sure they have made choices that they believed to be best for themselves, but they were damaging to me and would have been unsafe for my children.   As a "solitary" person who has sought to love the Lord and His people,  I have been blessed to experience His unconditional adoptive love through His people.  The people He has placed in my life for me to love and be loved by.  I am always amazed when the families of those I love like family accept and me and my kids rather than being threatened ...

So excited. The bits and pieces seem to be coming together quite nicely for a summer adventure… me & my kids-a road trip in California. :) Summer is a little ways off still, but I can at least dream of the sun when I can't see it :). If I get the answer I am hoping for from one more couple… and call Brad's aunt, we should be able to make the whole trip with no hotel stays, and get to see at least 9 friends… Barbara is making great strides in her potty training. Good times… good friends… good memories… I can hardly wait!!!!!!!

They learn by choosing to follow the leading of adults they love and respect. Mentoring can be formal or informal. There are programs like Big Brother Big Sister of America that pair kids with mentors. These programs are great and can make a difference in the lives of children, but sometimes the child can feel more like a project, like the adult mentor is trying to fix them. I believe informal mentorship is far better, perhaps because I greatly benefitted from it myself. As a high-risk teen from an abusive and neglectful home, I was fortunate to encounter several people who took me under their wings and showed me my life could be different.
